- Transparency and Accountability.
Our core mission is to promote and advance the values and virtues of transparency in government and its institutions. - To advocate for accountability through the provision of the platform for investigative journalism that unravels concealed truths and facts, therefore holds those in power to be accountable to the people.
- Empowerment through Information.
With the fact and belief that access to information empowers citizens, our magazine seeks to educate readers about their rights to information and the mechanisms available to obtain it, fostering an informed public. - Diversity of Opinions.
We shall add value to diversity of voices and perspectives. This will be achieved through our editorial policy which shall encourage contributions from a wide range of authors, including marginalized communities, to reflect the multifaceted nature of society and ensure inclusivity in discourse. - Upholding the Principle of Fact-Based Reporting.
We shall be committed to rigorous fact-checking and ethical journalism is paramount. We prioritize credible sources and strive to present information in a clear, unbiased manner, allowing readers to form their own opinions based on verified facts. - Advocacy for Policy Change
Beyond reporting, we actively engage in advocacy for policies that enhance freedom of information laws. We collaborate with organizations and activists to push for legislative reforms that promote transparency and protect whistleblowers. - Engagement and Community Building
We encourage reader engagement through letters, comments, and social media. Building a community around shared values of transparency and freedom of expression is important for fostering dialogue and collective action. - Innovation in Storytelling.
We embrace various formats—articles, podcasts, videos, and interactive content—to reach diverse audiences. Our goal is to make complex issues accessible and engaging, utilizing innovative storytelling techniques. - Commitment to Ethics
Upholding ethical standards in journalism is critical. We are committed to integrity, respecting privacy, and ensuring that our reporting does not harm those involved in our stories.
Through these principles, our magazine aims to be a beehive, repertoire and beacon of information for boosting Open Government and democratic ethos.

OUR MISSION
FOI Magazine mission is to educate the public about their rights to public information, we believe that transparency is the foundation of a healthy democracy. Our mission is to empower citizens with the knowledge and tools they need to access public information, hold governments accountable, and demand openness in governance.
Through investigative journalism, educational resources, and community advocacy, we strive to make the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) accessible to everyone—because public records belong to the public.
Why We Do This
Government transparency shouldn’t be a privilege reserved for journalists and lawyers. Yet, many people don’t know their right to request public records—or face unnecessary barriers when they try.
We founded www.foinewsmagazine.com to:
✔ Demystify Freedom Of Information Act – Break down complex legal processes into simple, actionable steps.
✔ Expose Injustice – Use Freedom Of Information Act to uncover corruption, waste, and abuse of power.
✔ Amplify Voices – Share stories of citizens who have used Freedom Of Information Act to create change.
✔ Fight for Transparency – Advocate for stronger open-government laws and policies.
Our Story
FOI News Magazine was founded in 2015 by Dr. Austine Akubo, who saw firsthand how public records requests could expose wrongdoing and spark reform.
After filing dozens of FOIA requests to investigate local government spending, we realized that many people lacked the resources to navigate the system. That’s why we built this platform—to make Freedom Of Information Act a tool for the people, not just the powerful.
